Other Library Services

The Merrimack Public Library also offers these additional services:

Public Access Computers:  The Merrimack Library has many computers on both levels for the public to use.  Each is loaded with Microsoft Office software and internet access.  Use your Merrimack Library card to log in, or ask for a guest pass at the Circulation or Reference Desks.

Wireless Internet Access:  During business hours, patrons visiting the library with their own wireless-ready laptop computers can simply boot up their network software and connect to "Library."  This non-secure connection is only available during the library's operating hours.  Wi-fi users are responsible for protecting their own privacy.  The service is available on both floors of the library, although signal strength may vary.

Printers for Public Access Computers:  Cost of black and white printed pages is $.10/side.  Cost for color printing is $.50/side.

Newspapers & Magazines:  located near the north end windows of the building for patrons to easily access while visiting the library.

GMILCS, Inc. LogoLibrary Consortium Borrowing: The Merrimack Public Library is a member of GMILCS, a non-profit consortium of 12 public & academic libraries in NH sharing an integrated system, materials, and access to some online resources.  GMILCS members' cards are known as "Common Borrower Cards".  This means you may borrow most materials from these other consortium libraries.  The GMILCS, Inc. consortium serve the libraries of Amherst, Bedford, Derry, Goffstown, Hooksett, Manchester, Merrimack, Milford, Salem, Windham, New England College and the New Hampshire Institute of Art.

Please note the following:

  • You must have your active library card when visiting other libraries, and your account must be in good standing (if in doubt, verify with the Circulation Desk).
  • A few libraries restrict what kind of materials can be borrowed.  Please note that Merrimack's museum passes or telescope cannot be shipped or returned to any other library.
  • You may request items to be shipped to Merrimack, or, you may visit the participating library and checkout items there (restrictions may apply).
  • You may also request that an item be shipped to a particular location for pickup.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):  If we, or any other GMILCS libraries, do not have the materials you are searching for, we can borrow them from other libraries within the state (fees may apply).  ILL requests are processed through the Reference Desk.

Photocopier:  There is a coin-operated copier at the north end of the building, near periodicals.  It is capable of making black and white copies for $.10 each on letter or legal sized paper, and it does accept $1 bills as well.

Remote Access Library Catalog:  Library cardholders may search the library catalog remotely via the internet. From your home or office computer, visit our website merrimacklibrary.org and select the "Catalog" link from the top menu.  When prompted, enter your library card number and you can search using title, author, or subject.

Patron Accounts:  Library cardholders who have also established a PIN (personal identification number) are able to view their own library card record. After selecting the Search Our Catalog link, select the file tab My Account. Enter your library card number and PIN to view what materials you have checked out, renew items, and place other items on hold. Visit the Circulation Desk in person to establish your PIN.

Online Information Resources (Databases): Library cardholders also have remote access to our online information resources.  You can use these subscription databases to find all kinds of information, including magazine articles, local newspaper archives, homework help, and research project help.

Proctoring:  Proctoring services are available at no charge to residents and Merrimack cardholders. Students interested in having an exam proctored should contact the Adult Services Department well in advance of their exam date (at least a week ahead) to make the necessary arrangements.
