2018 Libraries Rock! Summer Reading Challenge


Join us for the ‘Libraries Rock!’ 2018 Summer Reading Challenge!

Here’s all the information you need to participate.

How does it work?

To participate in the library’s Summer Reading Challenge all you have to do is track the time you spend reading between Wednesday June 20th and Wednesday August 15th. You get to read whatever you want- books, magazines, comics, audiobooks, anything! Log your reading time in Beanstack, using the Beanstack website or the new mobile app. All of your reading time will count toward prizes for you as you reach program milestones, opportunities to win weekly raffle prizes, and we’ll also count your minutes toward our community goal.

What is this year’s community goal?

This year’s goal is for everyone to read 8,000 hours during our 8 week program. Every minute you log in Beanstack helps us reach our goal and defeat the Summer Reading Challenge! When we reach our goal, the Friends of the Merrimack Library will make a donation to the United Way of Greater Nashua to benefit people in our community.

What’s Beanstack?

Beanstack is the program we use to keep track of everyone’s reading all in one place. We ask that everyone who wants to participate register in Beanstack. This allows us to easily see our community goal progress and lets you know when you’ve won a prize for hitting a milestone. Once you’re registered, it’s up to you how you track your time. You can use paper logs, available in the children’s room starting June 20th, you can use the Beanstack website, or you can use the free new Beanstack app available in the Apple store and Google Play.

Important Beanstack Notes:

We recommend that you update Beanstack at least once a week during the program. Logging minutes weekly in Beanstack makes you eligible for all of our weekly raffle prizes this year!

If you are using paper logs to track your reading and need assistance logging time into your Beanstack account, please bring your logs into the Children’s Room – we are happy to help!

If you have used Beanstack for our Summer Reading Challenge in the past, your account still exists and there is no need to create a new one. You can log in with your username and password to update your information and register to participate in the 2018 challenge.

Beanstack allows account holders to create multiple reader accounts. For example, if you are a parent of three children, you can create a single account and add each child as a separate ‘reader.’ This means one username and password to log minutes for everyone in the family!

How do the prizes work?

Thanks to the support of several community businesses, we have some very exciting prizes to offer our readers this summer!

Reading Milestones: When you read for 10, 20, or 30 hours come into the Children’s Room to pick up your prize bag. Prize bags for reading milestones include King Kone and Cowabunga’s coupons, along with a free book and various swag items.

Weekly Raffles: We will be announcing weekly raffle prize winners on Thursdays starting on June 28th. Anyone who logs any amount of minutes into Beanstack by Wednesday at 5:00PM will automatically be entered into a digital raffle for our prize, with no need to fill out any tickets! Weekly raffle prizes include tickets to Canobie Lake Park, passes for Launch Trampoline Park and more! Baskets will be displayed in the Children’s Room.

Is the Summer Reading Challenge just reading?

No! We have lots of rockin’ programs lined up for the summer, starting with our Summer Reading Kickoff Concert featuring Ben Rudnick and Friends on Wednesday June 20th at 6:00 PM in Abbie Griffin Park. We’ll also explore music around the world, play with slime, and, of course, sing and craft in storytime. Visit our online calendar to see our entire events lineup.


Registration for Session 1 programs opens on June 6th, and includes all programs through July 20th. Registration for Session 2 programs open on June 20th and includes all programs through August 17th.
