Our 8th Annual Turkey Shoot fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at the Merrimack High School Cafeteria.
No admission! Turkey Raffle and Specialty Raffle ticket prices are 1 ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5, 15 tickets for $10 and 40 tickets for $20. Two hundred food prizes will be awarded plus donated gift certificates and gift baskets!
Doors open at 6:00 pm and the first raffle will be drawn at 6:30 pm. We will have a total of four rounds when we will raffle off all the fixins for a Thanksgiving dinner, including cider, chocolate, veggies, pie and of course, turkey!
We will also have a separate raffle of baskets donated by individuals and local businesses as well as another separate raffle of scratch-off lottery tickets.
There will be a children's area of games and activities and live acoustic music by local band Last Reach.
Last year, we raised funds toward designing and creating additional outdoor seating for our patrons. We have accomplished some preliminary work preparing the grounds for that and part of the landscape design was to find a space to install an exterior book drop. Since the Manchester Recycling Department decided to end the Exchange Club can recycling program, a potential location for an exterior book drop was created next to our green maintenance shed. With that in mind, this year we will continue focusing on improving our outdoor patron space by raising funds for this book drop.
The Turkey Shoot Committee is seeking donors to sponsor a Turkey Shoot Raffle Basket

Turkey Shoot FAQs
What is a Turkey Shoot?
In our case, it is a night of raffles. Parts of 40 turkey dinners (including turkeys, bag of vegetables, pies, cider and candy) will be raffled off, as well as a variety of themed gift baskets that are raffled separately, and a limited raffle for NH lottery tickets.
What time does it start?
Doors open at 6:00pm and Round 1 of the food raffle begins promptly at 6:30pm. The event is over by 9pm.
Is there an admission fee?
No, there is no charge to attend the event.
What is the price of raffle tickets?
This is a Cash Only event. Tickets prices for the food raffle and the gift baskets are: 1 ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5, 15 tickets for $10 and 40 tickets for $20.
How does the food raffle work?
Turkeys and other food items are raffled off in four rounds. First, tickets are sold for Round 1. During Round 1 fifty winning tickets are drawn for prizes alternating between a turkey, veggies, pie, cider or candy. At the end of a round the old tickets are discarded and the process repeats with a completely new set of tickets being sold for the next round. There’s no limit on winning! Some lucky people win more than one item. Increase your chances by buying more tickets.
How does the gift basket raffle work?
Tickets for the gift basket raffle are sold separately from the food raffle, but at the same prices. Each gift basket is assigned a number. Put a ticket in the bag corresponding with the number on the basket(s) that you would like to win. Basket winners are drawn at the close of the evening and you must be present to win.
May children attend this event?
Children are welcome to attend with an adult. Games and coloring activities are set up on the side of the room for our younger attendees.
Are refreshments available?
Yes, for the last several years the Friends of the Library have sold sandwiches, cookies, chips, soda, water and other snacks.
Who sponsors this event?
The Friends of the Library are the event sponsors. The Friends of the Library is a tax-exempt 501c-3 non-profit organization.
Why call it a Turkey Shoot?
Historically, events were held during which participants would compete to shoot a turkey that they would then take home for their Thanksgiving dinner! Nowadays, in the week before Thanksgiving, turkeys are on everyone’s mind and, although there’s no shooting, the pace of the food raffles is very fast!
Please call the Library Director, Yvette Couser, at 424-5021 x 108, if you'd like more information about the event!
