Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Merrimack Public Library (FMPL) is a group of volunteers interested in supporting, promoting, and enhancing the services provided by our town library. They are a recognized 501C-3 charitable organization, so member dues and donations are tax-deductible.

FMPL provides Merrimack residents with "Books for Babies" gifts, donations to local charities on behalf of the children who collectively meet Summer Reading Challenge goals, assistance with sorting and setting-up Book Sale donations, and subsidization for an array of educational and entertaining events.

Our assistance to the library and the Merrimack community depends largely on annual membership dues. Your contribution of $10 or more makes you a member of FMPL. Once you are a member, you'll receive email updates to keep you informed of events and volunteer opportunities.

Activities & Fundraising

The Friends of the Library Executive Board meets at the library on the last Monday of each month from September through June and any members are welcome and encouraged to join us. Please check the Library's Event Calendar for dates for our upcoming meetings.

The Friends of the Library's Annual Meeting is held prior to the June Friends-Only Pre-Sale at 5:15.

Book Sales

All Friends of the Library Book Sales have been postponed until further notice; donations of books and other media are being accepted at this time.

The Friends play a key role in the three annual Book Sales held at the library. We accept donations throughout the year and these can be dropped off during the hours that we are open. Staff can provide donors with a blank receipt but donors are responsible for valuing the items. We do not accept VHS, cassette tapes, encyclopedias, or periodicals. Volunteers presort donations all year, then help set up each Book Sale. Anyone interested in volunteering during a Book Sale can contact Director Yvette Couser at

The 2021 Turkey Shoot Night of Raffles has been cancelled.

However, we hope you will join us in supporting the Library in a fun, socially distant fundraiser:

wreath auction

Friends of the Merrimack Public Library

2021 Holiday Wreath Auction

Please visit our Facebook page here to view photo albums of donated wreaths from last year's event. You can participate in two ways:

First, create and donate a wreath. All types of wreaths are welcome - holiday, whimsical, or natural wreaths. We encourage you to express your creativity or to purchase a ready-made wreath to donate to the event. All wreaths must be dropped off at the Library to Yvette Couser through the month of October and by November 2nd so staff can hang and photograph them.

Second, bid on the wreaths. All donated wreaths will be displayed at the Library and on the Library's Facebook page. Virtual bidding will take place on the Library's Facebook page between November 3-17. Bidding with close at 8 pm on the 17th. Each wreath will go to the highest bidder at the close of bidding. Winners will be notified via Facebook messenger and can pick up and pay (cash or check made out to The Friends of the Merrimack Public Library) for their wreaths at the Library between 11/18-24 (Library closes early on the 24th). If a wreath isn't picked up, the second highest bidder on the list will be contacted beginning December 1st.

We look forward to seeing your creations!

Please email Library Director Yvette Couser at if you have any questions.
