Part-time Youth Service Library Aide

Description: The Merrimack Public  Library is looking for a positive team-player to work in our fast-paced Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate will have creative problem-solving abililties, and can be attentive to details while exhibiting a commitment to our library's mission. Duties include creating and leading innovative programs for children and teens; providing readers' advisory services and guidance in locating library materials; assisting patrons in the use of library computers and online services; attending outreach events. Hours: Schedule of 20 hours/week includes day mornings/afternoon shifts, one evening each week and rotating weekends.

Qualifications: Candidate must be age 18 or older. HS diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Competency in computer use including Microsoft Office products and internet searching required; familiarity of social media preferred. Prior library experience and/or customer service experience preferred. Experience working with children and teens and/or knowledge of children's and teen literature preferred. Artistic and creative skills are also desirable. MLIS students encourage to apply.

Part-time Youth Services Summer Intern

Description: The Merrimack Public Library is looking for a student intern who wishes to gain practical library experience by supporting the Department Head and staff in our fast-paced Youth Services Department.  Duties include assisting patrons (primarily children from birth to age 17 and their caregivers) in the use of the library, assisting with special events and activities, and promoting of library materials.  The 10-week internship runs from June 10 through August 18, 2018. The schedule will include an average of 20 hours/week and will be determined by intern and supervisor.  Hours may be applied to school credits (to be determined by Intern’s academic institution).   The Library encourages that the Intern keep a journal to track time and read professional articles regarding library trends and best practices (accessible through the library).
