Job Opportunity: Adult Services Library Assistant, Full Time

Description:  Due to a retirement, the Merrimack Public Library has an immediate  opening in our Adult Services Department to be filled by a professional librarian or a paraprofessional. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. The schedule will be comprised of a combination of weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

The successful candidate has the demonstrated skills to help our team provide quality customer service. Experience with online reference resources and a thorough understanding of PC computing and mobile devices is needed.  Duties include processing all Inter-Library Loan requests, providing routine reference service, technology instruction, planning/promotion of library events, and collection management. Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred. New MLD graduates and candidates in the NH Paralibrarian Certification Program welcomed. Experience working in a library setting, using computers and mobile devices, knowledge of adult literature, and performing excellent customer service preferred. Artistic and creative skills also desirable.

Wage: $15.60-$20.25/hour, depending on education and experience.

The Merrimack Public Library is looking for a friendly and energetic team member to work on the main floor of our fast-paced library. The successful candidate will have creative problem-solving abilities and be attentive to details. We are looking for someone who will contribute to a positive environment and exhibit a commitment to our library’s greater objectives.

Duties: General duties include checking materials in and out, processing reserved materials and cash transactions, providing excellent customer service to patrons both in person and over the phone, promoting library services to patrons, and a host of other tasks.

Qualifications:  HS diploma required. Candidate must have excellent customer relations skills and proficiency with computers; must have experience with Microsoft Office. Experience working in a library highly desirable. Candidates must also be detail-oriented, with the ability to alphabetize and correctly shelve materials in Dewey Decimal order. Good physical condition is required to be able to push heavy carts, reach upper shelves, bend, stoop, lift, and stand for long periods of time.

Closing date: June 24, 2019 or until position is filled.

Salary: $12.00/HR (17 Hrs/Wk) Position includes weekdays, evenings and rotating weekends.
