Title: Executive Department Head/Head of Circulation

Description: The Merrimack Public Library has a full-time opening for a newly created position of Executive Department Head/Head of Circulation. We seek a dynamic individual who is positive and creative, possesses excellent communication skills and can work nimbly in a fast-paced environment.

The Circulation Department serves as the Library’s first point-of-contact for many patrons and is the hub of collection operations. The successful candidate will maintain quality public relations, supervise the circulation of the library collection of books and non-book materials, and will curate the museum pass, Adult print fiction and Large print collections.

As Executive Department Head, the successful candidate will work closely with the Director on administrative, personnel and general library business and will act on the Director’s behalf during his/her absence.

This individual supervises 8 part time Circulation staff, participates in the Library’s management team, serves as the GMILCS Consortium Alternate, and represents the Library in our  wider community. View a copy of the full job description here.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS and/or Masters Degree in Operations, Organizational Management, Human Resources or other related administrative field; professional library experience or related experience with a demonstrated development of library skills, including one year in a supervisory position; five years progressively responsible experience in management or administration and demonstration of competence; experience with automated systems and other computer applications.

Salary: Annual salary for this full-time position is $49,358.40; includes benefit package with NHRS, Health and Dental Insurance.

Title: Library Assistant I, PT Adult Services

Description: Due to an internal promotion, The Merrimack Public  Library is looking for a positive team-player to work in our Adult Services Department. The ideal candidate will have creative problem-solving abililties, a positive attitude, patience and can be attentive to details while exhibiting a commitment to our library's mission. Duties include creating and leading innovative programs for adults; providing readers' advisory services and guidance in locating library materials; assisting patrons in the use of library computers and online services; attending outreach events.

The Adult Services Department provides services for ages 19+ and staff may also collaborate with our Youth Services staff to plan and provide services to our “new adult” patrons. The successful candidate will bring their commitment to excellent customer service, organizational skills and ability to work in a team to bring a variety of innovative programming and resources to our patrons.

Hours: Schedule of 25 hours/week includes day mornings/afternoon/evening shifts each week and rotating weekends.

Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent; college preferred. Previous experience working in a library preferred. Significant technical experience with computers, comptuer software, and mobile devices required. Customer service experience is required. Artistic and creative skills are also desireable. MLIS students encourage to apply.

Title: Part-time Youth Services Library Aide


Description: The Merrimack Public  Library is looking for a positive team-player to work in our fast-paced Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate will have creative problem-solving abililties, a positive attitude, patience and can be attentive to details while exhibiting a commitment to our library's mission. Duties include creating and leading innovative programs for children and teens; providing readers' advisory services and guidance in locating library materials; assisting patrons in the use of library computers and online services; attending outreach events. Hours: Schedule of 20 hours/week includes day mornings/afternoon shifts, one evening each week and rotating weekends.


Qualifications: Candidate must be age 18 or older. HS diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Competency in computer use including Microsoft Office products and internet searching required; familiarity of social media preferred. Prior library experience and/or customer service experience preferred. Experience working with children and teens and/or knowledge of children's and teen literature preferred. Artistic and creative skills are also desirable. MLIS students encourage to apply.
