Slavery and the Underground Railroad in NH: Visit With Author Michelle Arnosky Sherburne via ZOOM

As part of the Town's 275th Anniversary Celebration, we invite you to learn about African American history in New England from Michelle Arnosky Sherburne, journalist and author.

Ms. Sherburne will discuss her book, Slavery and the Underground Railroad in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire was once a hotbed of abolistionist activity. But the state has had its struggles with slavery, with Portsmouth serving as a slave-trade hub for New England. Abolitionists such as William Lloyd Garrison, Nathaniel Peabody Rogers and Stephen Symonds Foster helped create a statewide antislavery movement. Michelle Arnosky Sherburne uncovers the truth about slavery, the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement in New Hampshire.
